The effects of propolis on the human body were actively studied by traditional healers several centuries ago. And, despite the fact that a huge number of different drugs of synthetic origin have now appeared, the use of which can quite effectively reduce blood pressure levels, the use of propolis has not lost its relevance.
Many practicing doctors do not deny the positive effects of propolis on the human body in general (and on the cardiovascular system in particular), and recommend taking it as a prophylactic agent in the treatment of a variety of diseases.
What's the benefit?
Propolis contains many components of natural origin, as it is a natural beekeeping product. Worker bees produce this component from substances found in young shoots, buds and pollen of resinous trees. It is quite difficult to determine the exact content of useful substances, since it depends on the physiological state of the bees, the plant species and climatic conditions.
The collected resinous substances, mixed with the secretion of the maxillary glands of the worker bee, are further processed by the receiving bees. They carefully grind the brought mass, adding wax, plant pollen and the secretion of their own salivary glands. Thanks to the above procedures, a product is obtained that contains:
- more than 50% of various resins;
- about 30% waxy substances;
- 6% balms;
- up to 9% pollen;
- tannins and mechanical impurities.
The benefits are determined by the eight amino acids included in the composition, three of which are essential for human life. As well as vital microelements:
- Cu.
- Zn.
- Mg.
- Ca.
- K.
- Al and others.
Pharmacological activity is determined by the compounds included in its composition, which carry out complex work:
- flavonols and flavones;
- benzoic, furonic and phenolcarboxylic acids;
- oxycoumarin.
Providing anti-inflammatory, antiparasitic and antiviral effects, they have a positive effect on the walls of capillaries, stabilize the membranes of lysosomes, toning the walls of blood vessels. Flavonoids enter the human body as follows:
- choleretic and diuretic;
- stimulates: adrenal glands, pancreas and thyroid glands.
Properties of propolis
Propolis is the best natural antibiotic
Propolis is also called bee glue because bees use it as a sealant to seal cracks in hives. Its composition is unique: it is a mixture of beeswax, bee saliva and secretions collected from the buds and bark of trees. This substance is similar to dark brown plasticine. Depending on the region where bees live, its color range can be varied.
Note: Up to 50 different compounds are included in bee glue. The largest percentage consists of resins, plant balms, waxes, essential oils and pollen.
The effect of “black wax” on the body is enormous:
- it is an antiseptic and a powerful natural antibiotic that suppresses the development of pathogenic microflora;
- stimulates the immune system, strengthening it;
- gives tone and reduces the feeling of fatigue;
- cleanses the body of unnecessary waste products: waste and toxins;
- frees blood vessels from “bad” cholesterol, improving their permeability;
- has a positive effect on the nervous system, improving mood and relieving anxiety;
- externally used for osteochondrosis, arthritis and radiculitis,
- helps reduce blood pressure.
In practice, solutions prepared in water, oil or alcohol are used. It is very useful to use propolis with honey or bee bread or buy preparations based on “black wax”. These are various ointments, patches, suppositories, creams, aerosols and extracts.
Traditional treatment
People who prefer traditional medicine often ask a question regarding its effectiveness: does this remedy lower or increase blood pressure? Thanks to research, it has been established that propolis has a hypotensive effect, therefore, it perfectly lowers blood pressure.
It is worth remembering that you should not completely abandon drug therapy. Before use, you should consult your doctor to avoid further complications.
Effect on pressure
Propolis is called a heart product: improves heart function, blood circulation, dilates blood vessels, reduces blood pressure, high cholesterol.
The composition includes phenolic acids, which protect arteries and capillaries from microdamage and inflammation. Vitamins and flavonoids strengthen blood vessels and maintain their elasticity.
For hypertension
A common cause of hypertension is nervous tension, stress, and depression. The lining of blood vessels consists of smooth muscle. When a person is nervous, muscle tissue contracts - the lumen of blood vessels narrows, blood pressure rises.
With constant exposure to irritating factors, a spasm appears. When the walls of blood vessels are constantly narrowed, high blood pressure becomes chronic.
Propolis contains substances that block nerve endings, preventing smooth muscles from contracting. The vessels remain in a relaxed state, the pressure drops.
Folk recipes
Propolis can lower blood pressure and traditional medicine healers often use its tincture in the treatment of hypertension. To increase effectiveness, you should adhere to a diet and do not refuse antihypertensive drugs prescribed by your doctor. Here are some of the most popular recipes for hypertension.
Tincture
The tincture is prepared at home. To do this, grate the pre-frozen propolis on a fine grater. Then, pour in cold, boiled water. This procedure will clean the product from foreign substances and impurities that float to the surface.
The floating particles of substances should be drained along with the liquid and the remaining purified biological material should be dried. The product prepared in this way is usually infused in alcohol, vodka or herbal alcohol solutions: 20 grams of crushed propolis is poured into 80 ml of alcohol.
The prepared infusion is stored in a cool, dark place for two weeks. During this period it should be shaken periodically. The resulting medicine is filtered and poured into a dark glass bottle. Take 40 drops three times a day for three weeks.
Tincture with hawthorn
Traditional healers also recommend using propolis and hawthorn tincture in the treatment of hypertension.
- To prepare, you need to mix hawthorn fruits and dried active substance in a 1:1 ratio.
- Next, 20 grams of the resulting mixture of propolis and hawthorn berries should be crushed and poured with 80 ml of alcohol.
- Infuse the tincture for more than 10 days, placing the bottle in a cool, dark place.
Use 25 drops for two weeks.
Garlic balm
Another recipe that has received the maximum number of positive responses is a balm with garlic.
- To prepare it at home, you need to grate 180 grams of garlic on a fine grater.
- Then, add 210 ml of alcohol or vodka to the resulting slurry and leave in a dark place for two weeks, then strain.
- To the resulting alcohol solution of infused garlic, add 60 grams of honey and 35 grams of 10% propolis tincture.
It is recommended to take the prepared balm for a month, 25 drops before meals.
There is a category of people for whom the use of alcohol is contraindicated. In this case, the tincture can be prepared on a water basis. To do this, add cooled boiled water to the dried propolis in a ratio of 1:2 and place in a water bath for an hour. Let sit for 6 hours, pour into a glass jar and store in a cool place.
conclusions
Healing potions prepared on the basis of propolis (or with its addition) will be effective for hypertension at any stage, but only if the patient strictly follows a diet, gives up bad habits and begins to take the synthetic drugs prescribed to him. In addition, you should not work (if possible) at night, and sleep at least 8 hours a day.

Studies in hypertensive patients
Studies conducted in sanatoriums, in the course of identifying the medicinal properties of propolis, showed remarkable therapeutic results in patients with various diseases of the cardiovascular system.
Thus, in hypertensive patients at the first stage of the disease, the pressure after the course of treatment decreased to normal levels. And in patients with stage 2-3 hypertension there was a decrease of 10-30 mm Hg.
This proves the effectiveness of using propolis for hypertension. In addition, many patients stopped complaining of heart pain and swelling of the lower extremities.

I, like all men, endure to the last and do not like going to the doctor. But the pressure started to hurt and I had to go. The doctor was smart and advised me to buy propolis and make an infusion. I am very afraid of herbs, especially tinctures, who knows how they will affect me? It turned out to be a worthwhile remedy! I felt the result immediately: my general condition returned to normal, my mood even improved, and I completely forgot about blood pressure.
