Reviews: (c) “an obvious response to stimulation occurs within 9 days.” But their use requires certain hospital capabilities. Treatment is carried out only under the supervision of an oncologist or hematologist who has experience in using these dosage forms.
How to increase white blood cells in the blood
The number of leukocytes in the blood is an indicator of the body's immune defense. Leukocytes play the role of a fighter against viruses and bacteria; they are responsible for the immune response and tissue repair. A very small number of leukocytes in the blood may indicate the development of a severe viral infection, autoimmune disease, oncology, etc. However, a decrease in white blood cell levels can be caused by fasting, severe depression, or low blood pressure.
A decrease in the blood leukocyte count below normal most often occurs in people who have suffered severe cancer or infectious diseases and were treated with serious drugs. In such cases, the specialist should advise the patient on how to return the body to its previous form, how to eat properly in order to restore the deficiency of leukocytes.
It has been shown that it is impossible to increase leukocytes in the blood without following certain nutritional rules. Typically, people suffering from leukopenia are advised to reduce the consumption of animal fats, meat, and liver.
You should pay attention and add sources of natural vitamins to your diet, that is, fruits, berries, vegetables, herbs. Among vegetables, beets play a special role
It is considered the No. 1 product in the development of oncology and the prevention of malignant neoplasms. Beets are useful in any form - raw and boiled, in the form of juice, left in the refrigerator for about 2 hours. It is also recommended to drink a small amount (50 g per day) of high quality red wine. The diet must include fish; red fish and red caviar are acceptable. Black caviar is a very useful product. Even official medicine has recognized the role of this product in the rapid restoration of the number of leukocytes in human blood.
How to increase white blood cells in the blood at home
Diseases associated with a decrease in white blood cells are also treated with pharmaceuticals designed to stimulate leukopoiesis. Such drugs include pentoxyl, leukogen, methyluracil, etc. In the treatment of very severe forms of leukopenia, the drugs filgrastim, penograstim, leucomax, molgrastim are used. They are mainly used in the treatment of leukopenia in people suffering from cancer.
There are many traditional medicines aimed at increasing the number of leukocytes in the blood. For example, 20 mg of bee royal jelly under the tongue three times a day will help restore the body's immune system. Take 10-20 days. An infusion of sweet clover is considered quite effective: 2 tsp. dry herbs are infused for about 4 hours, filled with 1.5 glasses of water. It is recommended to take 1/4 cup up to three times a day.
Oat decoction is also popularly considered an excellent remedy: 2 tbsp. Unpeeled washed oats are boiled for a quarter of an hour, pour 2 tbsp. water. Leave for about 12 hours. After straining, take 0.5 cups before meals three times a day.
It is recommended to take a course of 30 days, after 1 month you can repeat it again.
Plantain preparations increase the number of leukocytes by 1.1–2.5 times. They are sold in pharmacies.
For agranulocytosis, traditional medicine suggests bitter wormwood. Grass (3 tbsp) is poured with 3 tbsp. boiling water, leave for about 4 hours. Strain and take a glass a day before meals.
An infusion of chamomile flowers using the same method of preparation is also recommended.
In addition, you can increase your immunity with brewer's yeast, barley, oats, potatoes, garlic, beef, fish, yoghurt, tea and mushrooms.
The white blood cell count also increases when drinking red wine or beer. But you shouldn’t get too carried away with these means.
Walking in the fresh air and simple physical exercises have a positive effect.
It should be remembered that leukopenia is very dangerous in any of its manifestations, its treatment must be started immediately.
There are many different methods for increasing the total number of leukocytes in the blood, both in traditional and modern medicine. However, you should not self-medicate, especially with serious medications.

Raising leukocytes during chemotherapy (the experience of an experienced cancer patient)
Leukocytes - These are one of the cells in our blood.
They are also called white blood cells. Leukocytes have a very important role in the body. their scope of action is protection. Leukocytes protect the body from microbes, viruses, and protozoan pathogens.
In a word, white blood cells provide immunity. Normally, the number of leukocytes in adults ranges from 4 to 9 * 109 cells/l.
During chemotherapy, most drugs cause inhibition of such an important function of the bone marrow as hematopoiesis. As a result, the number of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets decreases.
A decrease in the level of white blood cells is called leukopenia.
It is very important to maintain leukocytes at the proper level during aggressive treatment of cancer.
This will help avoid the severe consequences of chemotherapy, which manifest themselves in the body’s increased susceptibility to infectious diseases.
To begin with, if after the next course of chemotherapy the decrease in leukocytes is not critical, you can try to increase them using publicly available methods and methods.
I’ll tell you about some of them, I once collected them from the advice of cancer patients and tested their effectiveness on myself.
1. Oncologists recommend that if you have a low white blood cell count, eat fruits, vegetables, and red berries
(red peppers, beets, red and black currants, cranberries, red apples, pomegranate). If you can't eat raw vegetables, bake them in the oven.
Red vegetables and fruits (photo from open source)
Baked apples and pumpkin are very good for raising white blood cells. Cut the apples and pumpkin into arbitrary pieces, add a little dried apricots and bake in the oven until the pumpkin and apples become soft.

2. It is useful to drink beet juice.
But not pure, but mixed with apple or carrot. The proportion is 3 parts beet juice and 1 part carrot or apple juice. It is important to keep beet juice in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before drinking. You can add a teaspoon of honey to the juice mixture.
Red beets (open source photo)
Traditional medicine considers beet juice an effective remedy for treating cancer.
. This was confirmed in his experiments by the Hungarian doctor Alexander Ferenczi. In his works, he described examples indicating the positive effect of beet juice on the condition of cancer patients and the prognosis of the disease.
There are contraindications to drinking beet juice:
Exacerbation of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis with increased acidity of gastric juice, acute inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
Kidney stone disease with the formation of oxalate stones, chronic renal failure.
3. Buckwheat with kefir helps well with low leukocytes.
Prepare this mixture the night before. Add 6-8 tablespoons of kefir to a couple of tablespoons of buckwheat and leave until morning. Eat it for breakfast in the morning.
I still regularly eat this buckwheat for breakfast. A very healthy dish.

4. Don't forget about decoctions of oat and barley grains.
I prepared the decoction like this:
A glass of barley or oat grains, washed thoroughly and chopped a little. Then I filled it with one liter of water. Quickly bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about an hour, until the amount of liquid is reduced by one third. It’s easy to remember: glass-liter-hour.
Drink before meals, three times a day. You can alternate. Drink a decoction of barley grains for a week, and oat grains for another week.
5. It is also useful to include bran from sprouted wheat grains in your diet.
. You can prepare extremely healthy porridges and decoctions from wheat bran in combination with ground walnuts that help improve blood formation.
6. Another way to increase white blood cells is beer with sour cream.
Ingredients:
sour cream – 200 grams;
beer – 0.33 liters
Preparation:
Pour sour cream into a beer mug. Add 100-150 ml of dark, unfiltered beer, stir until smooth. Add the rest of the beer and stir again.
A mixture for everyone. The taste is peculiar. I haven’t tried it, but experts say it helps.
7. Royal jelly and pollen help a lot
. They are usually sold at the market by honey sellers.
8. Try eating a small piece of salted lard every day.
For many, it effectively helps to raise white blood cells.
9. If funds allow, red caviar in small portions and seafood.
Of course, it is important that the nutrition is complete. This was discussed in the previous article.
If all these measures do not give the desired result and your white blood cells fall below the acceptable level, your oncologist will prescribe you special drugs to increase white blood cells. For example leukostim, filgrastim, pegfilgrastim or neoplastim.
These drugs stimulate the production of white blood cells in the bone marrow, rather than redistributing their content, increasing the number in the blood, as happens with the use of prednisolone or dexamethasone.
They are not cheap, but, in principle, they should be provided free of charge and used only as prescribed by a doctor. No self-medication.
And also, my dears, a positive attitude towards treatment and faith in success are very important, then everything will work out!
Hang in there, fight and be healthy.

We educate you on how to raise leukocytes in the blood
Leukocytes are a special group of microscopic blood cells called white blood cells. Their main function is to protect the human body from foreign cells and fight pathogenic bacteria, viruses and microbes.
As an important participant in the immune system, white blood cells produce antibodies and enzymes that can bind and destroy harmful agents. In addition, they are responsible for the disposal of decay products, removing dead cells from the body. The place of formation of white blood cells is the lymph nodes and bone marrow.
Depending on various factors, the number of leukocytes may fluctuate down or up. Their increased formation is observed under certain conditions, for example, stress, pregnancy or as a result of severe physical stress. Sometimes a high white blood cell count indicates a bacterial infection in the body.
Particularly dangerous is the reduced formation of leukocytes. This condition is called leukopenia and means a weakened immune system. It can be caused by a number of different reasons, ranging from certain medications to very serious illnesses.
More about leukocytes
Leukocyte norm
Norms of leukocytes in leukocyte form
The composition of the blood is constantly changing, even during the day. In men, as in women, the number of white blood cells varies, but has clear normal limits. In a blood test, you can see the indicators of leukocytes, which will tell you about the patient’s health status and the body’s response to external factors. The age of the person taking the test matters, since the norm changes over the course of life.
The number of leukocytes in the blood of children is higher than that of adults . This is explained by the physiological characteristics of a child, whose body grows and develops rapidly. This is especially noticeable in the first months of the baby’s life. The highest white blood cell count in an analysis taken from an infant. Its value is 9-18*per liter.
As you age, your white blood cell levels decline. Already by the first year of a child’s life, the norm is 6-17*109/l, and by the age of four it is already 6-11*109/l. The normal level of leukocytes in the blood of an adult is 4-9*109/l, regardless of gender.
How to quickly increase white cell levels in pregnant women
In this matter, the woman herself becomes the main assistant, because she must strictly adhere to the recommendations of her gynecologist
It is very important during the period of bearing a child to eat properly, not to get too cold, and to prevent colds.
If, after all, the inflammatory process has begun, then only a specialist can tell you how to quickly increase white blood cells. Under no circumstances should you take medications without a doctor’s prescription, as they can lead to complications of the disease and side effects.
The medication taken depends on the patient’s health status and the decrease in the level of immune cells. If there is a slight drop in indicators, the following medications are used:
- Leukogen;
- Pentoxyl;
- Filgrastim.
In the early stages, such medications are not prescribed because there is a high risk of miscarriage. If there is a sharp decrease in leukocytes due to malignancy, chemotherapy will be required.
But usually leukopenia is not a pathological process, and doctors resort to mild medications that do not cause negative reactions in the body. The course of therapy includes antihistamines and steroidal anti-inflammatory components. Recipes from traditional medicine, homeopathy, herbal medicine, and immune-strengthening substances are also acceptable.
Nutrition for neutropenia
Neutropenia is a decrease in the level of neutrophils, which leads to susceptibility to bacteria (fungi), reduces the body's overall resistance to viruses and infections and decreased immunity.
The disease can develop over several days and months, and sometimes even up to several years. The disease can occur due to the use of medications and as a side effect.
Very rarely, the disease can be congenital.
There are no symptoms of the disease, but clinically it manifests itself in infections that develop against the background of the disease. With weakened immunity, the body becomes susceptible to various viruses and bacteria.
Neutropenia occurs with a sharp increase in temperature, the appearance of ulcers and the development of pneumonia.
When the level of neutrophils decreases, the body is susceptible to various infections, and even ordinary foods can be hazardous to health.
In this case, a special diet is necessary, excluding products that cannot be stored for a long time or are poorly processed, which may contain pathogenic bacteria or microbes.
To quickly get rid of neuropenia or avoid getting sick with it, you need to eat the following foods.
- 1 Dairy products include milk, but pasteurized milk. Yogurt made from pasteurized milk. Packaged ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, frozen desserts, but no nuts or raisins. For cheeses, give preference to Parmesan, cheddar, Swiss, and mozzarella.
- 2 Meat products can include all types of meat: pork, beef, lamb, poultry, fish, but they must be boiled or fried so that there are no germs and bacteria. You can even smoked products, sausage, but not purchased at “spontaneous” markets.
- 3 You can eat eggs, but only hard-boiled ones.
- 4 All first courses are allowed, but freshly prepared.
- 5 As for fruits, it is better to give preference to oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, bananas, and melons.
- 6 It is allowed to eat cooked or canned, as well as frozen fruits. Drink pasteurized fruit juices.
- 7 You can eat vacuum-packed foods or canned roasted nuts.
- 8 You can eat potatoes, rice, noodles, pasta in any form.
- 9 For flour products, packaged bread, cookies, and muffins are recommended.
- 10 Add alcoholic beverages to the diet only with a doctor’s permission.
Ways to raise your white blood cell count
How to raise the level of white blood cells in the blood is an important question for people who want to support the protective function of their body and for people who have undergone chemotherapy. You should familiarize yourself with the most effective methods of increasing them.
Diet for low white blood cell counts
You can bring the level of leukocytes back to normal with the help of nutrition, which will ensure that the body receives the necessary nutrients. Doctors usually recommend eating foods that increase your white blood cell count. So, you need to follow the rules below.
- Introduce into your daily menu a sufficient amount of fresh fruits (pomegranates) and vegetables (beets, carrots), as well as fresh or frozen berries (red currants). Citrus fruits such as tangerines, oranges, and lemons will be very useful in this case. They make cell membranes more stable.
- You need to eat more protein-rich foods - eggs, chicken, turkey, beef, broths based on these types of meat, fish, seafood. And you don’t have to limit yourself in consuming fermented milk products.
- You should definitely include walnuts in your diet. They contain Omega-3, which protects cells from pathogens. You need to eat several nuts every day.
- It wouldn’t hurt to eat buckwheat porridge in the morning, the grains of which can be doused with kefir overnight. The cereal itself needs to be washed thoroughly.
- As mentioned earlier, it is recommended to eat fish. Preference should be given to red fish, as well as caviar, both red and black.
- You can drink juices and compotes from various vegetables and fruits. Drinking juice from carrots, beets or pomegranate will be effective. The drink should be fresh and slightly diluted with water. A glass of pomegranate juice should be diluted exactly half.
- Doctors advise eating 1-2 tbsp. spoons of real honey before meals every day.
- Raises low levels of leukocytes in the blood and red wine. However, you should not abuse it; you only need to drink a little.
- Every day you need to drink about 2 liters of water, no less. You can also drink tea (green is best), fruit drinks and fresh juices from freshly squeezed fruits, vegetables or berries.
For leukopenia, extracorporeal pharmacotherapy is also used. This method consists of delivering medications directly to the area of the pathological process, that is, introducing red blood cells from the donor directly into the bloodstream.
How to raise white blood cells at home?
You can increase their level in the blood by using folk remedies. A fairly well-known remedy is the infusion of medicinal clover. To do this, you will need 2 teaspoons of crushed plant, which are poured with distilled cool water (1.5 cups), and then infused for four hours. This infusion, namely a quarter glass, should be drunk several times a day for a month.
In the fight against leukopenia, royal jelly is used, which is placed under the tongue three times a day. This remedy strengthens the immune system well. It is used for 2-3 weeks.
An effective method would also be an oat decoction. You need to take 2 tbsp. tablespoons of cereal, pour 2 cups of hot water over it, and then cook for 15 minutes. The resulting broth is filtered and cooled. You should drink ½ glass three times a day for about a month.
You can also use an infusion of pollen. To do this, you need to mix it with natural honey in a ratio of 2 to 1 and leave for three days. One teaspoon during tea drinking will be enough, or you can simply wash down this extract with milk.
A widely known home remedy is a decoction of wormwood. Three tbsp. spoons of chopped herbs should be poured with 3 glasses of hot water and left for 4 hours. After which the infusion should be filtered. One glass of this decoction is taken before meals daily. It will also not be superfluous to make an infusion of chamomile (its flowers), which is prepared according to the same principle.
You can strengthen the immune system and raise white blood cells at home with infusions of beans, rose hips, barberry roots, flaxseeds, brewer's yeast and others.
Walking outside and basic physical activity are also considered effective methods.
Ways to increase leukocytes
You can quickly increase white blood cells in the blood in different ways, it all depends on the age, reasons and preferences of the person. All of them are equally effective if you follow the recommendations and use them according to the system. Sometimes they combine different methods to improve performance in the shortest possible time; this is easy to do at home, an outpatient regimen is not required.
Medicines
Use medications to raise the level of leukocytes in the blood only after visiting a doctor. He will prescribe a medicine based on the causes of the problem, the person’s well-being and other factors that may have an impact. Do not self-medicate under any circumstances, so as not to cause harm to the body instead of benefit. Use the following:
- Leukogen, a drug that stimulates the production of leukocytes in the bone marrow. Available in tablet form, dosage – 20 mg. Take strictly according to the regimen prescribed by your doctor, usually the norm is 3 or 4 tablets per day. The course lasts until the indicators normalize, usually 10 days are enough. Sometimes you need to repeat the dose, but do this no earlier than 2 weeks after the first time.
- Methyluracil, a universal remedy that improves recovery processes in the body. There are different release forms: tablets, ointments and suppositories. To increase leukocytes, the tablet version is best suited. Dosage – 500 mg, frequency of administration – from 4 to 6 times per day, it is determined by the doctor based on the state of health. Should be taken immediately after meals. The duration is also determined by the situation or by test results.
- Eleutherococcus, a natural adaptogen with tonic properties. It is made in different forms: tablets, dragees, capsules, syrup or extract. The last two options should be taken half an hour before meals 2-3 times a day, after diluting in water according to the instructions from the package insert, do this for 2 to 4 weeks. As for tablets and capsules, you need 1-2 of them. twice a day with meals, the duration is prescribed individually (usually about 3 weeks).
- Leukomax, a drug that affects the entire hematopoietic system as a whole and the activity of leukopoiesis. Release form: lyophilisate for preparing a solution that is injected into a vein or subcutaneously. The drug stimulates the production of blood cell precursors, which are used in the formation of blood. The dose is prescribed by the doctor and used once a day.
- Filgrastin is a highly purified polypeptide, it contains 175 amino acids. A solution is made from it, which must be administered intravenously or subcutaneously. Administer once a day. As for the dosage, in order to increase the level of leukocytes in the blood, the doctor takes into account the characteristics of the patient’s condition and his reaction to the medicine.
You can usually return your readings to normal and stabilize your white blood cell production within 2-3 weeks. All this is done under the strict supervision of a doctor with constant testing for monitoring. Usually one drug is selected to improve performance; tablet versions are most often prescribed as they are easier to use. Solutions for intravenous or subcutaneous administration are prescribed individually.
Diet
There is a list of foods that increase leukocytes in the blood; if you correctly adjust your diet, you can achieve good results using this method. The advantage of this method is that it is not necessary to see a doctor when for some reason there is no such opportunity or it was not possible to buy the drugs. It is worth following simple tips:
- Consume more high protein foods. Seafood, different types of fish, and meat broths are suitable. Another good option is fermented milk products; there is no need to limit them, except perhaps try not to eat in the evening, so as not to disrupt the digestion processes in the stomach during sleep.
- An excellent solution for breakfast is regular buckwheat, which needs to be properly prepared. To do this, in the evening, rinse the cereal well, remove all the black grains, pour it into any container of a suitable size and fill it with kefir. In the morning it will be ready to eat.
- Eat at least 2-3 walnuts per day. They contain many unsaturated Omega fatty acids, which increase cell protection against infections and other diseases. This is very important during the period when leukocytes in the blood are low and the body is vulnerable to infections.
- Eat more fresh fruits, pomegranate is best. Also, if possible, consume red currants; they are suitable both fresh and frozen. All citrus fruits help increase the stability of cell membranes and stimulate improved blood cell production.
- Vegetables you should use are carrots and beets. It's best raw, but it can be used in different dishes. Another option is juice from these crops, it contains many useful substances.
- Red fish and its caviar have a good effect on blood formation. Try to eat these foods more often.
- Drink juices or compotes. Suitable beetroot, carrot, pomegranate, ideally squeezed immediately before use. It is advisable to dilute them.
- Use natural honey daily. Literally 2-3 spoons are enough, which should be eaten before the main meal. The second option is to take it in the evening; this is not only a product that raises white blood cells, but also a means of normalizing sleep.
- Drink at least 2 liters of clean water per day. Do not use the tap version, the liquid must be purified, if there are no good filters, it is easier to buy a ready-made version in a large container. Distribute the entire volume evenly to constantly maintain water balance. It is advisable to drink 3-4 cups of green tea.
- If possible, drink 100–150 ml of red wine every day, no more. Do this throughout the diet.
- Lard with a high fat content does not accumulate cholesterol in the body. It is advisable to eat at least 100 g of it per day, this will improve blood production and serve as additional nutrition for cells.
- Add dill to salads and hot dishes. It contains folic acid, copper and potassium. Use greens wherever possible. Use olive oil for dressing, as it improves the absorption of nutrients.
- Prepare porridge every day. Various options are suitable, but it is better to give preference to barley, oatmeal and buckwheat.
Advice! If there is nowhere to get clean water, you can purify it by freezing it. Pour several liters into a plastic container, leave for 6 to 12 hours depending on the volume of the container, there should be a cavity inside with unfrozen liquid, which needs to be punched and drained. Thaw the rest and drink.
In order to raise white blood cells in a few days at home, you need to follow the advice on nutrition. There is nothing complicated here, but the following recommendations should not be neglected:
- Plan your diet at least a day in advance, prepare food in advance. Use the maximum from the list above.
- Eat at the same time every day. It is better to do this at least 5 times and in small portions than 3 times.
- Don't forget to drink water throughout the day. The easiest way is to install an app with reminders, so you can control your drinking.
- Exclude from the menu anything that has a bad effect on the production of leukocytes. The list is below.
There is a list of what is undesirable to eat during the diet. Some foods can help lower your white blood cell levels, while others are bad for your white blood cell production. The restrictions are:
- Alcohol. The exception is a small amount of dry red wine; everything else should not be used at all until the end of treatment. It is also worth giving up smoking, or reducing tobacco consumption to a minimum.
- High carbohydrate foods.
- Baked goods and sweets. Sugar has a bad effect on blood composition; it is better to limit its consumption.
- Liver of animals and fish. It has a bad effect on the production of leukocytes, it is better to abandon it altogether.
- Beef, duck meat, broilers. Give preference to lean poultry.
You should avoid fast food and avoid eating too fatty, salty or spicy foods. If possible, do not fry meat, but boil or steam it. If there are foods that cause allergies in a person, then eliminate them completely.
Folk recipes
Folk remedies can raise leukocytes in the blood quite quickly. When the decrease in white blood cell levels is not very severe, this method will solve the problem. But still, it is better to first consult with a doctor and periodically undergo tests to monitor indicators. The recipes are:
- A mixture of dark beer and sour cream. Pour about 250 ml of the drink (precisely dark), add 3 tablespoons of sour cream to it, mix well. Drink immediately after preparation, do this once a day. Usually 10-14 days are enough to improve performance.
- Place half a liter of water on the stove, add 2 heaped tablespoons of unpeeled oats. Bring to a boil, simmer over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes. Leave to cool at room temperature, strain through a bandage or gauze. Drink 125 ml 3 times a day before meals, duration – from 7 to 14 days.
- Pour the chopped clover into a small container (about 2 tablespoons). Pour boiled water, cooled to warm (300–350 ml). Leave for 4-5 hours, then strain. Drink 60-70 ml three times a day before meals, do this for a month.
- Wash, peel, and cut one medium-sized table beet (about 0.5 kg) into rings about a centimeter thick. Place in a wide container in 2-3 layers, sprinkle 3 tablespoons of salt on top and cover the surface with a thin layer of natural honey. Leave in a warm place for 3 days, then squeeze out, consume the resulting liquid 50 ml 3-4 times a day, consume the composition for at least 2 weeks.
- Pour 4 tablespoons of dry wormwood into a container and add a liter of boiling water. Leave for 5 hours, then strain. Take 20 ml 3 times a day before meals. If the wormwood infusion is too unpleasant and difficult to drink, replace it with medicinal chamomile.
- Collect plantain leaves, rinse well under the tap and dry on an absorbent cloth. Then pour boiling water over it, pass through a meat grinder or food processor, another option is to grind it in a blender. Squeeze through a sieve to remove solids and simmer for 5 minutes over low heat. Use a tablespoon four times a day for 2-3 weeks.
- Dissolve 20 g of royal jelly under the tongue 2 times a day for 2 weeks. It is better to do this in the morning and evening. This option should not be used for any infectious diseases.
- Prepare a medicinal composition from pollen and natural honey in a ratio of 2:1. Store the finished composition in the refrigerator, eat about a teaspoon per day, washed down with milk.
- Collect unripe bean pods and squeeze the juice out of them. You can simply grind and squeeze out the liquid. Consume 1-2 tablespoons in the morning on an empty stomach for about 7-10 days.
- Pour 75 g of washed flaxseed into 2 liters of clean water, put on the stove, and bring to a boil. Simmer over low heat for about 2 hours, then let cool to room temperature, strain through cheesecloth. Drink 100 ml three times a day for 2-3 weeks.
- Collect dandelion roots (40 g) and kupena (10 g), currant leaves (10 g). Rinse well, chop and mix. Pour a tablespoon of the prepared product into a glass of hot water and boil over low heat for 10 minutes. Cool, filter, take 80 ml three times a day for 15-20 days.
- Pour 10-12 tablespoons of dry or fresh rose hips into 2 liters of clean water. Place on the stove, bring to a boil, hold for 10-15 minutes over low heat. Let cool, remove berries. Drink instead of tea or water throughout the day.
- Collect equal parts of nettle, sweet clover and horsetail greens. Rinse, chop and mix until smooth. Add water at the rate of one glass per tablespoon of greens, bring to a boil, then let cool and filter. Drink half a glass three times a day, for a period of 2 to 3 weeks.
- Drink 5-7 quail eggs every day. This is a good way to nourish the body when there are low leukocytes in the blood.
Advice! It is better to buy pollen, royal jelly and honey directly from beekeepers. This is the only way to guarantee the quality of these products.
Using folk remedies, you can increase white blood cells in the blood almost as quickly as with medications. But most often, all the described options are used as an addition to the main treatment or diet to ensure effect. You need to select a recipe individually, it all depends on the availability of certain components.
Eliminating deficiency in children
All procedures must be done only under the supervision of a doctor. First, you need to conduct a study and take tests to identify the cause of the decrease in the level of white blood cells. Only after identifying the problem should treatment be prescribed, most often these are drugs to restore immunity and strengthen it to normalize the process of blood synthesis:
- Lykopid, an immune modulator, is available in tablet form. Take half an hour before meals; the doctor prescribes the frequency, dose, and duration of treatment individually. It all depends on the age, condition of the child, and the medications he takes additionally.
- Broncho-munal, another immunomodulator drug, is produced in the form of capsules with two dosage options - 3.5 and 7 mg. Use in the morning on an empty stomach, usually once a day. The details of the treatment are prescribed by the doctor.
- Immunal is produced in tablets or solution based on natural ingredients. The dosage regimen and frequency are selected by the pediatrician depending on age and health status. For young children, the tablets can be crushed to make them easier to take. The period is usually from 2 to 4 weeks.
- IRS 19 is an aerosol preparation with a slight odor. To raise the level of leukocytes in the blood, inject 1 time into each nostril once a day. The duration of treatment is 2 weeks, after which you need to take tests and monitor your indicators.
Advice! All liquid formulations should be diluted to make it easier for the child to drink them. And if he cannot swallow the capsules, open them, pour the contents into a spoon and take with water.
To be effective, it is worth supplementing treatment with diet or folk remedies. You can adjust your diet yourself, and use any additional compounds to normalize the leukocyte formula only after consultation with your pediatrician. It is worth constantly maintaining immunity with the help of vitamin complexes, consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits.
Treatment after chemotherapy
Such courses have a bad effect on blood composition and immunity. Therefore, procedures are needed to restore the level of leukocytes. This is an important process on which rapid recovery and protection from diseases depend. All procedures are prescribed by a doctor; recommendations should not be violated. You need the following:
- Medicines to restore the leukocyte formula, colony-stimulating drugs are best suited. They stimulate the production of white blood cells and significantly extend their lifespan. The following options are prescribed: Lenograstim, Molgrastim, Pentoxyl, Methyluracil, Filgrastin, Neupogen, Leucomax, etc.
- Follow the diet throughout the entire period of treatment. Use the products recommended above, try to form a menu only from them, avoid everything that has a bad effect on hematopoietic processes. Eat at the same time every day, and remember to drink plenty of purified water. Consume more fresh vegetables and fruits, herbs.
- Every morning before breakfast, eat 100 g of grated carrots with sour cream and honey. Use other folk remedies only if approved by your doctor. Choose 2-3 products that are easier to make and more convenient to take. You can try different solutions, find those that give an effect, since different people react to the drug differently.
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Mandatory walks in the fresh air and physical activity should also be included, but it should be agreed with the doctor in order to receive benefits for the body and not overload it. Limit contact with sick people, wear a gauze bandage in crowded places, any diseases during this period are undesirable.
- Constantly monitor indicators, monitor dynamics and make adjustments to treatment if necessary. When one drug does not give the desired effect, it is better to try another or add additional folk remedies to improve the production of white blood cells.
- It’s good to rest and get enough sleep so that the body recovers and all processes go correctly. Take medications to improve immunity.
In such situations, you need to act individually, it all depends on your state of health, the pace of recovery after chemotherapy courses and the levels of white blood cells in the blood. Follow all instructions of your doctor, especially when using drugs with strong effects.
What to do during pregnancy
To increase leukocytes in the blood of a pregnant woman, a number of conditions must be observed and not pose a danger to the development of the fetus. It is important to quickly respond to leukopenia, since during this period the body’s protective abilities weaken, and the likelihood of disease increases greatly. If you do everything correctly, the problem can be solved quickly:
- Consult your doctor and choose a treatment option. If there is a strong decrease, it will not be possible to do without special medications; not all of them are suitable for pregnant women. Do not self-medicate under any circumstances, use only what is prescribed by a specialist.
- For minor deviations, use traditional recipes or a diet to correct the leukocyte formula. It is worth constantly sticking to a healthy diet, this will help eliminate problems. But even such options must be agreed upon with the doctor, and then the indicators must be monitored to understand whether the treatment is effective.
- Try to constantly eat fresh vegetables and fruits. Preferring the above will help support the synthesis of blood cells in the bone marrow.
Advice! It is useful to drink pomegranate juice every day, but it is better to use it not in concentrated form, but diluted with water.
It is not difficult to raise the level of leukocytes in the blood if there are no infections or other problems in the body. You need to constantly monitor indicators and take tests in order to detect the problem at the very beginning, then solving it is much easier. But during pregnancy, choose medications that will not harm the baby.
Folk remedies
How to increase the level of leukocytes in the blood at home without resorting to medications?
Treatment with traditional methods is acceptable and brings a noticeable effect, but self-medication may be unsafe for health.
For this reason, before starting treatment with one of the traditional recipes, it is recommended to consult with a specialist regarding the advisability of such therapy.
Alternative medicine has many advantages - the naturalness and availability of components, the absence of contraindications and side effects, a gentle effect on the body and effectiveness in increasing the level of blood cells.
A popular remedy that can raise the level of leukocytes is an infusion of sweet clover. It’s very simple to prepare – pour 2 large spoons of chopped herbs into 0.5 liters of boiling water, cover and leave for 5 hours. Consume throughout the day, regardless of meals.
Oat decoction can normalize the level of blood cells due to the fact that it contains essential microelements, proteins and vitamins.
To prepare the medicine, take 1-2 large spoons of grains and 400 ml of water, cook over low heat for 25 minutes after boiling. After this, leave for 12 hours.
You need to consume 70 ml in the morning and evening on an empty stomach. The course lasts 1-2 months.
An herbal mixture made from motherwort, knotweed and horsetail will be effective for low levels of white cells in the blood.
Video:
Herbs in equal proportions are mixed and ground in a coffee grinder. Add 5 grams to food as a spice.
If the leukocyte count is low, colored pollen will help, which must be mixed with natural honey in a ratio of 2 to 1 and left for four days. Take 1 small spoon with water or milk.
A remedy that can also raise white blood cells is to squeeze the juice from the pods of unripe beans and drink 2 small spoons up to five times a day.
An extraordinary remedy is beer with sour cream. To increase the level of leukocytes, you need to put 2-3 large spoons of sour cream in a glass of beer and drink this drug once a day.
A decoction is prepared from flaxseed - pour 50 grams of seeds into 1.5 liters of water and simmer over low heat for 1.5 hours.
Leukopenia can be treated with medications, diet, and alternative medicine. It is also recommended to reconsider your lifestyle - give up bad habits, go in for sports.
Any treatment must be carried out under the supervision or supervision of a physician to avoid consequences.
Normal indicators
Before you start increasing, you first need to clarify the current level of leukocytes and compare it with normal values, and also identify the very magnitude of the deviation - you may not need to do anything.
The average leukocyte norm for any situation is 4-9 × 109 per liter.
The level of individual deviations can be influenced by many factors - from the state of the external environment to physical and mental stress at the current time. The table below shows averages by age and some common conditions.
On average, after a course of treatment, leukocytes in the body drop by 5 times. But we remember the main function of these cells – immunity, including the fight against cancer. Therefore, for speedy rehabilitation, it is very important to begin their recovery as quickly as possible.
We also note that minor fluctuations in the level of white cells in the blood are normal, and any injury to the bone marrow, where their formation and maturation occurs, can also have a general effect. In the meantime, let's move directly to recovery methods.
Reasons for the downgrade
The level of white blood cells most often decreases due to the fact that the production of white blood cells in the bone marrow is reduced. But there may also be other reasons for this problem. For example, leukocytes can be destroyed directly in the vessels or retained in the so-called depot organs, which also reduces their level in the blood.
Other common causes of low white blood cells include:
- oncological diseases;
- autoimmune diseases;
- debilitating viral infections;
- radiation exposure;
- benzene intoxication;
- chemotherapy;
- starvation;
- anaphylactic shock.
Taking medications also provokes a decrease in the level of white blood cells. This mainly occurs when using amidopyrine and butadione, analgin and pyrabutol. Antibacterial agents that contribute to changes in the content of leukocytes include chloramphenicol.
Diseases also affect the reduction of white blood cells in the blood. These are diseases that increase the functionality of the spleen, causing cirrhosis of the liver, malaria, tuberculosis, rubella, typhoid fever, measles, viral hepatitis and anemia.
How chemotherapy affects blood composition
Chemotherapy drugs destroy not only tumor cells, but also healthy cells in the body. Actively dividing young bone marrow cells are most sensitive to the effects of chemotherapy, while mature and well-differentiated cells in the peripheral blood respond less to it. Since red bone marrow is the central organ of hematopoiesis, synthesizing the cellular component of blood, its inhibition leads to:
- decrease in the number of red blood cells - anemia;
- decrease in the number of leukocytes - leukopenia;
- a decrease in the number of platelets - thrombocytopenia.
A condition in which there is a lack of all blood cells is called pancytopenia.
Leukocytes do not respond immediately after chemotherapy. Typically, the white blood cell count begins to decline 2 to 3 days after treatment and peaks between days 7 and 14.
If there is a reduced number of neutrophils, which are a type of white blood cell, neutropenia occurs. Chemotherapy-associated neutropenia is one of the most common myelotoxic reactions associated with systemic cancer treatment due to cytotoxic effects on rapidly dividing neutrophils.
Mature granulocytes, including neutrophils, have a lifespan of 1 to 3 days, so they have high mitotic activity and greater susceptibility to cytotoxic damage than other longer-lived cells of the myeloid lineage. The onset and duration of neutropenia varies widely depending on the drug, dose, frequency of chemotherapy sessions, etc.
Given these side effects of most chemotherapy drugs, patients are prescribed a general blood test over time to monitor the initial blood counts and their changes over time.
Diet
How to raise white blood cells at home? Foods that increase the level of leukocytes should contain Omega-3 acids, potassium, zinc and vitamins B, E and C. In each case, the hematologist gives individual recommendations, depending on the cause of the condition.
In any case, it is recommended to minimize the consumption of animal fats and avoid eating liver and fatty meats. It is also recommended to reduce carbohydrate intake.
Treatment after a course of chemotherapy
As you know, cancer is treated with chemotherapy.
This technique uses drugs that target cancer cells. At the same time, they negatively affect the circulatory system and bone marrow. As a result, leukocytes are the first to suffer. Their levels decrease rapidly within a couple of weeks after the start of chemotherapy. To minimize side effects, patients are prescribed Leukogen, Batilol, Cefarasin, Pyridoxine, Granacite or other drugs of this group. Proper nutrition is especially important for the restoration of leukocytes after chemotherapy. To the list above you can add other products such as red wine, honey, nuts, pumpkin, carrots, zucchini
To the list above you can add other foods such as red wine, honey, nuts, pumpkin, carrots, and zucchini.
After chemotherapy, consuming buckwheat with fermented baked milk is useful to increase the number of leukocytes. To prepare the dish, you need to pour buckwheat with fermented baked milk or yogurt in a ratio of 1:3, leave it to steep overnight, and eat it for breakfast in the morning.
A few more recipes that promote the formation of white blood cells during the recovery period after chemotherapy:
- Beetroot juice. Mix grated raw beets with a spoonful of sugar, leave the beet puree overnight to release the juice. In the morning, squeeze out the pulp, and take the resulting juice one tablespoon on an empty stomach half an hour before breakfast. The course of admission is two weeks. You should not drink freshly squeezed beet juice. It is necessary to let it stand for 2-3 hours.
- Walnut tincture. Pour a handful of walnuts with a glass of vodka and place in a dark place for a couple of weeks to infuse. Take the tincture 2 to 3 times a day, one tablespoon at a time.
- Barley decoction. Pour one and a half glasses of barley grains into 2 liters of boiling water, and then cook the mixture until half of the previous volume remains. Take 100 ml of decoction 3 to 4 times a day.
Raising the level of leukocytes after a course of chemotherapy with folk remedies is necessary under the strict supervision of an oncologist.
Herbs, infusions, decoctions and other folk remedies are just an aid to the basic treatment of a serious illness.
Medicinal herbs
You can use bitter wormwood. Three tablespoons will require three cups of boiling water. After the components are mixed, the mixture must be infused for 4 hours. Drink the decoction three times a day, 200-250 grams.
Wormwood can be mixed with propolis. To prepare the product, you will need 2 tablespoons of crushed raw materials (wormwood), which should be poured with 500 milliliters of hot water. Infuse the decoction for 1 hour. You can consume it on an empty stomach by adding 20 drops of propolis tincture.
How to raise leukocytes? You can use sweet clover. For 500 milliliters of cold water you will need 10 grams of the plant, leave the mixture in a dark place for several hours. Afterwards, the mixture should be strained and drunk for a month, one tablespoon, twice a day.
Rosehip is suitable for increasing the level of leukocytes. The fruits must be crushed and filled with water, simmer over low heat for 25 minutes. Then the broth is infused for 24 hours. After this, it can be consumed 2 tablespoons 3 times a day, approximately 30 minutes before eating.
How to raise leukocytes in the blood using diet and folk remedies
Leukocytes are white blood elements that are responsible for human immunity. A decrease in their level is called leukopenia.
A low level of white elements indicates the presence of viruses, infections, tumors in the body, and develops while taking certain medications or after chemotherapy. You can find out how to raise white blood cells at home in the article.
You can read about the norms of leukocytes in the blood here: in men, in women, in children.
Products that increase white blood cell levels
To increase the number of white blood cells, a protein, easily digestible therapeutic diet is prescribed for this purpose. Let's look at what foods increase leukocytes in the blood:
It is important to exclude from the menu:
- Fatty, spicy, smoked, salty dishes,
- Fatty fish, meat,
- Mushrooms,
- Liver,
- Animal fats,
- Strongly brewed tea, coffee,
- Products that contain preservatives, substitutes, dyes,
- Sweets.

How to increase white blood cells after chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is a procedure that suppresses dividing cells, destroying not only cancerous cells, but also healthy cells.
Low leukocytes in the blood after chemotherapy must be restored, since the body’s defense system suffers, and even an abrasion or a cold can pose a great danger to a person.
How to increase white blood cells in the blood after chemotherapy? After chemotherapy, the following drugs are prescribed to raise white blood cell levels:
- Colony-stimulating factor agents - they restore the level of white blood elements in the shortest possible time: leukogen, neupogen, pentoxyl, lenograstim, methyluracil. Leukogen, 1 tablet 3-4 times a day. Methyluracil, 1 tablet 4 times a day,
- Vitamin therapy – improves hematopoietic processes: vitrum, complivit, centrum. Centrum, 1 capsule 1-2 times a day.
The level of white cells is also normalized using autohemoimmunotherapeutic procedures (introducing donor red blood cells to the patient, which are previously treated with the drug “Essentiale”).
Recombinant interferon is used, which is produced from human blood: it has a pronounced antiviral and immunostimulating effect. This group includes Viferon, which is prescribed rectally (in the form of suppositories) 1 suppository twice a day.

What medications promote the growth of white blood cells?
How to increase white blood cell production with foods? The answer to this question is ambiguous. The products are only an addition to the rehabilitation base. Often it is medications that help normalize white blood cells after chemotherapy. The dose of active substances in the preparations is much higher, which is important for the growth of leukocytes.
Attention! Self-medication with a low leukocyte count is strictly contraindicated. Any use of chemotherapy is prescribed by a doctor. Additional medications during the rehabilitation process should be discussed with the oncologist.
Doctors have divided drugs that promote the growth of leukocytes into two types: gentle and highly effective. The first type of drugs is prescribed at the final stages of rehabilitation. These include:
- Polyoxidonium. Has an immunostimulating effect. Produced as a vaginal and rectal product. The main task of the drug is to stimulate blood cells to form antibodies. Removes toxic elements, lipids, has antioxidant properties. Contraindicated for pregnant and lactating women, people with renal failure. The price varies between 800 rubles.
- Imunofal. It is produced in the form of a spray or solution. Provokes rapid cell restoration, increases the body's protective function, normalizes the body's redox reactions, and removes toxins. The drug should not be taken by children under 2 years of age and pregnant women. The price on the Russian market fluctuates around 500 rubles.
A low level of leukocytes in the blood can be raised with more effective and efficient drugs, but their cost is much higher. Highly effective medications include:
- Leukogen. The drug helps increase the number of leukocytes. It is produced in the form of a white powder with a brownish tint. Low toxic. The drug should not be taken by people with blood diseases or lymphogranulomatosis. Minimum price 1000 rubles.
- Neupogen. Prescribed to stimulate leukopoiesis. It is produced in the form of an odorless solution. Increases neutrophils, reduces neutropenia. It should not be used by people with Kostmann's syndrome or during radiation therapy. Price – from 1000 rubles.
- Cepharansin. A sharp decrease in leukocytes is nothing for the drug, since it is recognized in Japan as one of the best remedies that quickly and actively stabilizes all cellular compounds. It is integrated into cell membranes and is highly effective. It has practically no contraindications. Each manufacturer sets its own price for the drug.
Normal values of leukocyte levels in human blood
Normal white blood cell limits are not a standard and constant indicator. This is due to the fact that there are many individual cases when the white blood cells in the blood are elevated. Below is a summary table of the current limit values of all subpopulations of leukocytes:
Name of leukocyte | Limit values (minimum and maximum for the norm)
% ratio to the total number of leukocytes | Absolute value Number of cells * 109
Band neutrophils | 1-6 | 0,04-0,3 |
Segmented neutrophils | 47-72 | 2,0-5,5 |
Eosinophils | 0,5-5 | 0,02-0,3 |
Basophils | 0-1 | 0,0-0,065 |
Lymphocytes | 19-37 | 1,2-3,0 |
Monocytes | 3-11 | 0,09-0,6 |
How to cook food properly
It is no secret that the longer a product is subject to heat treatment, the less nutrients remain in it.
Therefore, when cooking you should adhere to the following rules:
- It is better not to cook porridge, but to steam it with boiling water in a thermos for 3-4 hours. This way there is a greater chance of retaining all the beneficial properties of the product.
- When eating fruits, they are thoroughly washed, and for children, they are doused with boiling water. You should also be sure to remove the peel so that the process of digestion and assimilation is not protracted. To wash vegetables and fruits, use only boiled water, not tap water.
- Natural cow's milk must be boiled before consumption, after which the foam is removed.
- Yogurts and other fermented milk products are prepared using special bacterial starter cultures, which can be purchased at any pharmacy.
- Fish and meat should be cooked over a fire for at least 30-40 minutes, since all pathogenic microorganisms that enter the meat do not die immediately, but under a certain long-term thermal effect.
- Eggs must be washed with running water before consumption. Only fresh homemade chicken eggs are used for food. It is best to boil them or prepare an omelet, since in their raw form they take longer to digest and the chances of getting helminths are many times higher.
- For drinking, use only boiled water, even if it was purchased in a store.
- It is not recommended to use packaged juices with preservatives and dyes, which aggravate the immune system, forcing it to work beyond normal.
- The process and type of heat treatment is important. You should avoid deep-frying and oil in favor of baking in foil, stewing or steaming. Hot oil contains a large amount of nitrates, which have a detrimental effect on an already weakened body.
- It is better to refuse fast food and store-bought food in favor of homemade products, natural milk, meat and eggs. Vegetables, herbs and fruits grown in your own garden have a healing effect that is an order of magnitude higher than those bought in a supermarket.
- Food should be consumed in small portions, but often - at least 5-6 meals a day.
Such rules should be followed, since a reduced level of white blood cells indicates poor immunity, which indicates a high degree of infection.
