“In this case, the researchers say, firstly, that the effect of increasing the risk of sudden death is observed only at a dose of nifedipine above 60 milligrams, this is a larger dose, a smaller dose does not cause such an effect. Secondly, they themselves say that their results should be verified in other studies, so we should not urgently change the treatment tactics for our patients,” the doctor noted.
Ashikhmin explained that patients who use medications with nifedipine should not panic and should better consult their doctor.
“We have a lot of drugs in cardiology that can lead to fatal complications, for example, antiarrhythmics, which are very often unjustifiably used, and no one excludes them,” emphasized the interlocutor of the Moscow 24 portal.
Sometimes this is the only way to maintain blood pressure or prevent arrhythmia. Not all drugs are 100 percent safe. I don’t think that drugs containing nifedipine will be withdrawn from sale.
